CVT renewal information
CVT renewal notification emails with the CVT renewal form for the coming year are sent in October of each year.
One-year and two-year renewal options are available.
- 1-year renewal option –Renewal fee $50. - 12 CEUs required. All 12 must be earned in the current year.
- 2-year renewal option - Renewal fee $100 - 24 CEUs required. CEU earned in the current year and the previous year are acceptable.
- CEU used for CVT renewal one year may not be reused another year.
The following must be documented for all CEU submitted.
- Date of CE
- CE title
- Number of CEUs earned.
- For conferences offering multiple CE, each CE title and number of CEUs must be listed. (For example, listing VMX – 12 CEU is unacceptable; each lecture title, date attended, and number of CEU must be listed.)
Please note:
- Up to 3 CEUs per year outside of the field of veterinary medicine (non-veterinary or non-medical courses) may be accepted. These topics include but are not limited to business practices, human resources, and OSHA (please note, only RACE-approved OSHA courses are acceptable. If you have a question whether or not a CEU will be accepted, please email [email protected].
- CE approved by state VMAs, state VTAs, the AVMA, and RACE is acceptable.
- Up to 3 CEUs per year created and presented by an individual applying is acceptable.
- Any course that is offered by an educational institution (e.g., colleges, universities, high schools, trade schools, etc.) for educational credit that leads to either a degree or certificate will not be considered Continuing Education by the MVTA.
- You are not required to submit your CE Certificates for renewal.
- You are required to retain and provide your CE certificates for all CE attended if you are audited by the MVTA.
- Failure to do so may result in the suspension or loss of status as a Certified Veterinary Technician.

A $25 late fee applies to renewals submitted after December 31st, a $50 late fee applies to renewals submitted on March 1st and after, and additional late fees apply to certifications lapsed 12 - 36 months.
